Earlier this week, Telltale Games, the company behind the critically acclaimed The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, revealed some details about their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy game. As seen on WWG, a number of screenshots of the game were released.
The main cast was revealed, which includes Scott Porter, who has previously worked for Telltale in Minecraft: Story Mode and The Walking Dead: Season 2, as Star-Lord, Emily O’Brien, from Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, as Gamora, Brandon Paul Eells, from Watch Dogs, as Drax, Adam Harrington, from Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us, as Groot, and Nolan North, from a million things but probably best known as Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series, as Rocket.
A week from today, on March 17 at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Telltale will let a test audience crowd play the first episode of Guardians of the Galaxy before its release. The crowd play will take place at the Paramount Theater 6:30PM local time. Audience members will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis for SXSW or SXSW Gaming badge-holders.
Telltale Games was at PAX EAST 2017 today and most of their time slot was spent discussing Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the things revealed during this discussion was that Star-Lord will have rocket boots that will allow the player to explore the environment in a way previous Telltale games haven’t allowed. New concept art for the game’s environments was also shown. The panel discussed the game’s accessibility to people new to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise while also containing Easter Eggs for longtime fans. It was also revealed that the game will include a Marvel character who has yet to make an appearance outside of comics, though which one was not specified. The panel was streamed via the PAX Twitch channel. The first episode of Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to be released this spring for consoles, PC and mobile devices.
The panel also discussed The Walking Dead: A New Frontier briefly at the beginning of Telltale’s time slot. The discussion of the game culminated in a clip that acted as a short teaser for the third episode of the season. This clip revealed that the episode will be out on March 28 and the panel described the new episode as “super emotional” and “heavy.”
