Earlier this week, a new colorblind filter was revealed as an accessibility option for the upcoming Tekken 8. Footage and screenshots have showcased match with a stylized comic book background with fighters in black and white. There are also additional options to choose from Unfortunately, several members of the disabled community have voiced their criticisms of the mode saying that the mode is causing them to experience nausea and migraines.
Morgan Baker, Game Accessibility Lead at EA, asked for people to stop posting the video on social media. “Please stop tagging me in the Tekken 8 “colorblind” stripe filters. It’s already induced an aura migraine for me and I can’t afford to get another one right now, or worse. Appreciate y’all.”
Accessibility specialist Ian Hamilton also responded asking the devs to remove the striped filter. “It cannot be present at launch as it may hospitalise players (or worse), in the same way as the infamous Pokemon episode. He also provided an explanation as to why the filter should be removed.
Other Twitter users expressed their criticism on the filter too.
Back when the new filter options were revealed earlier in the week, Game Director Katsuhiro Harada released a statement saying that everything is still being researched and is intended to be expanded in the future.
