Earlier this week, a new colorblind filter was revealed as an accessibility option for the upcoming Tekken 8. Footage and screenshots have showcased a match with a stylized comic book background with fighters in black and white. There are also additional options to choose from Unfortunately, several members of the disabled community have voiced their criticisms of the mode saying that the mode is causing them to experience nausea and migraines.
Please stop tagging me in the Tekken 8 “colorblind” stripe filters. It’s already induced an aura migraine for me and I can’t afford to get another one right now, or worse. Appreciate y’all 🤟🏼♥️

Morgan Baker, Game Accessibility Lead at EA, asked for people to stop posting the video on social media. “Please stop tagging me in the Tekken 8 “colorblind” stripe filters. It’s already induced an aura migraine for me and I can’t afford to get another one right now, or worse. Appreciate y’all.”
@Harada_TEKKEN you urgently need to remove one of your filters (the striped one), it cannot be present at launch as it may hospitalise players (or worse), in the same way as the infamous Pokémon episode.

Accessibility specialist Ian Hamilton also responded asking the devs to remove the striped filter. “It cannot be present at launch as it may hospitalise players (or worse), in the same way as the infamous Pokemon episode. He also provided an explanation as to why the filter should be removed.
The approach with the filters in general would benefit from rework, they generally don’t help. The intent was good and the technology is good, but the focus should be on players with low vision, not colourblindness, filters aren’t a fix for colourblindness.

At the very least it should be deleted, the way that people find out they’re prone to seizures, which can be fatal (SUDEP), is by having one.
The intent, behind it, i.e. separating characters by something other than hue, is fantastic. But this isn’t the way to achieve that.

Other Twitter users expressed their criticism on the filter too.
Same here… Terrible migraine since I saw that shit… Can’t even sleep because of the pain…

Striped filter gave me instant vertigo just from a 2-3 second clip that I accidentally saw. It’s hazardous.

Back when the new filter options were revealed earlier in the week, Game Director Katsuhiro Harada released a statement saying that everything is still being researched and is intended to be expanded in the future.
A few people, albeit very few, have either misunderstood the accessibility options we are trying, or have only seen the video without actually trying them out in the demo play.
We have “multiple types of color vision options” for players with different color vision, not just… https://t.co/cEdcUTI8n3
