Last summer, one of the most unexpected character reveals in recent history occurred with Negan from The Walking Dead coming to Tekken 7. Now, after a few months, we finally received a gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated character during the Tekken World Tour 2018. If you’re out of the loop, Negan is a primary antagonist from The Walking Dead series who is as memorable as he is menacing. As one of the biggest headaches for the protagonists since his introduction, he has made a significant impression on fans thanks to his actions, personality, and striking design. This design that cannot be mentioned without also showing his barbed-wire covered baseball bat, Lucille, a weapon that almost seems made for Tekken.
While Tekken obviously can’t show the same level of violence in his introduction without reaching Mortal Kombat levels of gore, the gameplay trailer does show off that many of his attacks are taken straight out of The Walking Dead. With one of his attacks even being a direct callback to how Negan killed off a certain someone in the show, this only cements the point that his character has been directly translated in Tekken. While the trailer shows off some of his attacks, it will certainly be interesting to see how viable he will be in competitive play especially considering the range Lucille is shown to have.
This isn’t all in Tekken news however, as there is new content that should keep fans entertained until Negan releases. Recently, two series favorites joined the Tekken 7 roster in the forms of Armor King and Craig Marduk for the season 2 DLC, and both are now available. This leaves Julia Chang and Negan as the next additions to round out the season, though it should be stated that Bandai Namco has not given them release dates as of writing.
