Earlier this week, leading indie label Team17 announced its partnership with Weappy Studios. Together, the indie label and studio are developing a “criminally good” strategy adventure game, This is the Police, for play on PC and other platforms.
In a nutshell, This is the Police is about an honorable cop plummeting into the depths of corruption. Police Chief Jack Boyd (voiced by Jon St. John, the voice of Duke Nukem) is six months from retirement and has a spotless career. However, he’s tired of watching everyone else profit from his service and decides to get a taste of some action. The strategy adventure game is about power and corruption, duty and choice.
Jack’s had enough of seeing useless corrupt cops get rich on the proceeds of crime – the same ones who are now forcing him out of the job he loves – so to get even he’s going to show them how it’s done. Setting himself a target of making half a million in his last 180 days on the job, Jack’s ready to get his hands dirty in a whole new way!
The developers have declined to take any additional development funding from Team17, and request community support for This is the Police by checking out the game’s campaign on Kickstarter, which ends on February 25.
Ilya Yanovich, Co-Founder at Weappy Studio, said:
We hope our Kickstarter backers will join us in celebrating our new partnership with Team17. Thanks to Team17’s Indie Label we can focus on developing the game that stays true to both our and our backer’s vision of the project; whilst knowing that the marketing, PR and community interaction will be handled with the same love and attention. Having seen what Team17 have already done for previous crowdfunded titles like The Escapists, Beyond Eyes and Sheltered they were an obvious partner.
