The PlayStation 5 has officially arrived, and with it comes a plethora of excellent titles be it new IPs or backwards compatibility with PlayStation 4 games. Two of those titles are going to be remastered for the brand new system, as Team Ninja has announced that both Nioh and Nioh 2 will be re-released for both the PlayStation 5 and PC as The Nioh Collection, which collects both titles as well as their respective DLC and it launches on February 5, 2021. They also announced that Nioh 2 The Complete Edition will arrive for the PlayStation 4 on the same day.
In addition, Team Ninja also states that those who either already own Nioh 2 for the PlayStation 4 or plan to buy the complete edition for the same system, will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version at no extra cost. The difference is that one is just the base game and the other is already bundled with the DLC, but if you own any of the expansions for Nioh 2, they’ll make the trip to the PlayStation 5 as well. As for the PC version, the collection will include support for 4K ultra-HD and ultra wide-screen compatibility, as well as HDR monitor support.
This will also be the first time that Nioh 2 will be available on PC, as it’s been a PlayStation 4 exclusive up to this point. The first Nioh went through a similar situation, launching on Sony’s home console first before coming to the PC market. Speaking of which, Team Ninja is also planning on releasing the third and final expansion for the former on December 17, The First Samurai, which includes new enemies and challenges, not to mention a new and punishing difficulty setting that should test proven veterans of the series.
Nioh was Team Ninja’s answer to From Sofware’s Soulsborne series, which has gone onto be one of the most popular franchises in history. Whether it measures up to its counterpart is up for debate, but what is clear is that Nioh and Nioh 2 found huge fan base as both titles have received critical acclaim, cementing yet another excellent series in the Sony console and PC market. Those who have just obtained a PlayStation 5 and those who have been waiting patiently for a PC port are in for a real treat when it releases early next year.
The Nioh Collection officially launches on February 5, 2021, for the PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam.
