Ireland-based studio Starcave Entertainment have announced their latest project, FPS/Strategy hybrid T.E.R.R.A., and already have a Kickstarter going for it.
Do you like first person shooters? Or are you more the type who prefers to take a step back and watch the action from above, RTS-style, directing units and gathering resources to aid in your fight? Either way, T.E.R.R.A. just might be the game for you.
T.E.R.R.A. uses a blend of two unique gaming genres — the FPS and the RTS — and seeks to combine them into a single cohesive whole. Players can either run around willy-nilly in first person mode, shooting aliens/other players/ whatever, OR, they can take on the role of a unit commander, giving orders and helping to direct their team’s actions. Weapons are improved or changed not through the standard FPS pickups of new guns, but through the gathering of upgrade resources to improve and change what the player has available as well, integrating a typically RTS or RPG element into the FPS gunplay.
This isn’t the first time that the team at Starcave Entertainment have entertained the idea of an FPS/RTS hybrid either. Some time back the team released another game, Illumina, that featured many of the same concepts and elements as T.E.R.R.A. does, though in a much diminished capacity. Their plans for T.E.R.R.A. seem to be a natural progression of their initial ideas displayed in Illumina, and the past experience will hopefully serve them well in trying to combine T.E.R.R.A.’s disparate elements.
If traipsing across the alien moons of Jupiter in T.E.R.R.A. sounds like something that would interest you, feel free to check out the game’s Kickstarter for more information and, perhaps, even to help fund the game’s development. Releases are expected for PC, Mac, and Linux, and the game has already successfully managed approval on Steam’s Greenlight service as well.
