[Update:] System Shock 3 To Be Announced

[Update 12/14/15]

As predicted earlier in the week, System Shock 3 was officially unveiled on last Sunday.  It still appears the game is far from completion as System Shock 3 was described as being in “early concept stages of development.”

The infamous AI Shodan makes her return on the teaser site and even has some new recorded dialogue from her original voice actor.

OtherSide Entertainment released a teaser site for an unannounced game yesterday but the internet already seems to have figured it all out. Thanks to some sleuthing by some curious gamers, the game is confirmed to be none other than System Shock 3.

A peek at the page’s source code gave users a link to the big reveal page shown in the above image. The page has since been taken down and traces of it have been wiped from the teaser site’s coding but the image and news has already spread.

Despite the mistake there were some obvious clues that strongly hinted at a sequel to the franchise. The original System Shock was created by the now defunct Looking Glass Studios. Paul Heurath, founder of OtherSide Games, also founded Blue Sky Productions which later became Looking Glass Studios. OtherSide also contains other former members of the Looking Glass team.

Other fans of the series recognized the same font from the original game being used on the teaser page.

The last two System Shock games were released in 1994 and 1999. Night Dive Studios currently holds the license to the IP. In November they announced their acquiring of the franchise and a remake of the original game. An enhanced port of the original was also released by Night Dive. When asked about the possibility of a System Shock 3 Night Dive Studios CEO Stephen Kick said they were “having some conversations” but creating a new game was “going to take resources and time and commitment that we don’t have.” It would appear they have teamed with OtherSide for this project but that is still unconfirmed.

The countdown timer ends December 13 2015 so we’ll have to wait until then for more news.
