Yesterday, new information was revealed about a release for an enhanced edition for the classic science fiction game System Shock 2. The information came in the form of a tweet by Nightdive Studios in honor of the 20th anniversary of the game. Little is known about what will be added to this enhanced edition, but based on the enhanced edition of System Shock we can assume that the game support 4k resolution, as well as have a modifiable field of view, and an enhanced control system.
For those who don’t know, the System Shock series, is a series of first-person shooter survival horror role playing games. System Shock 2 was originally released on August 11th, 1999 and garnered rave reviews. The game follows a soldier suffering from amnesia as he attempts to fight his way through his former crewmates that have been infected by a psychic hive mind of aliens known as The Many in order to assist an AI named SHODAN in defeating these abominations and surviving through the game. The game included elements such as character customization as well as a character development system. The series also included a hacking mini-game in which players could hack various devices to open up new routes as well as lower prices on vending machines.
The company that is developing this enhanced edition, Nightdive Studios, is well known for taking classic games and updating them for compatibility for modern consoles and releasing them as digital copies. Nightdive is also currently in the process of creating a remake of the original System Shock and the company that initially developed the System Shock series, Irrational Studios and Looking Glass Studios, are in the process of making System Shock 3.
