Switch Games Storage Sizes Revealed

The storage sizes of a number of games for Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Switch, have been revealed on Nintendo’s Japanese website. According to IGN, the games whose sizes have been confirmed are as follows:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 13.40 GB
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7.00 GB
  • Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! – 1.60 GB
  • Disgaea 5 – 5.92 GB
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris – 1.09 GB
  • I Am Setsuna – 1.40 GB
  • Dragon Quest Heroes I & II – 32.00 GB
  • Nobunaga’s Ambition – 5.00 GB

Keep in mind that the Switch’s internal hardware will be able to hold 32 GB of data. This is more than enough to hold most of the Switch’s games, but, as you can see above, there is one game in particular, Dragon Quest Heroes I & II, that would take up all of the Switch’s storage space. The Switch’s own software will take up some space, meaning that probably more like 30 GB will be left for games, so Dragon Quest Heroes I & II won’t be able to fit on the console as it is.

Luckily, there will be SD cards available for the Switch to expand it’s storage space. According to GameSpot, there will eventually be SD cards for the Switch that can hold up to 2 TB (1 TB, or terabyte, is equal to 1000 GB). GameSpot also reports that currently the largest SD card can hold up to 512 GB and costs about $200. Obviously not everyone will want to spend that much on extra storage, and many people may not have a use for that much extra storage anyway, but an SD card of some size will be necessary for anyone who plays enough games to fill up the Switch’s 32 GB of space, or anyone who wants to play Dragon Quest Heroes I & II at all.

The Switch will be available on March 3 and will cost $299.99.
