Supermassive Games has announced the latest round of layoffs as they released a statement revealing that they have laid off 75 developers. The studio behind Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry, and most recently Directive 8020 said that this decision was made due to “help ensure the sustainability of the company.”

Supermassive’s statement reads:
“We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues. This is a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company.
“We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted.”
This comes following Supermassive’s latest round of layoffs where 36 employees were made redundant back in 2025. This also delayed Directive 8020 from October 2025 to May 2026 which garnered a mixed critical reception, with a Metacritic score of 72.
This also follows former CEO Robert Henrysson, who joined the studio in January 2024, stepping down from his role back in June. Henrysson said the decision was made to satisfy a need to “enjoy the Summer with my wonderful family and give a little more attention to my own small portfolio of investments.”
Supermassive Games came on the map with Until Dawn, their version of the interactive narrative choice-driven experiences that Quantic Dream is known for. Following the launch of Until Dawn, Supermassive released a few PlayStation VR games, The Dark Pictures Anthology, a series of smaller Until Dawn experiences, and Directive 8020, the fifth game in the series alongside Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me.
