It looks like Dead by Daylight is getting some new content, except it’s much more than just that. Announced by Behaviour Studios during their livestream event, fellow horror/suspense video game developer Supermassive Games will be developing single-player spin-off title that takes place within the Dead by Daylight universe. The game will be a single-player interactive story with a complete new cast of characters that will have “an intense narrative experience filled with powerful life-or-death choices set within the backdrop of Dead by Daylight.”
Other than that little tidbit of information we don’t really have too much information to go on as to what this single-player title will be about. If it’s anything like Supermassive’s previous titles, than can expect a lot of interactive game mechanics such as quick time events, major choices that affect the endgame, and lot of horror and suspenseful moments that will probably prevent us from playing this game in the dark. In the video, Behaviour also talks about another spin-off title, a multi-player co-op game that is being developed by Midwinter Entertainment and is in the very early stages.
For those who don’t know, Supermassive Games is well known within the video game community for their intricate storytelling along with their horror-style writing. The studio initially developed DLC for Sony titles such as LittleBigPlanet and even worked on porting older titles to newer consoles such as Killzone HD. Thier first proper IP was not even a horror title, it was the AR party game Start the Party. That all changed in 2015 when they released Until Dawn for the PlayStation 4, which included all of the aforementioned bells and whistles that the studio is now known for. The game was critically acclaimed, and firmly cemented Supermassive as a mainstay in the horror genre. Since then they’ve gone on to release The Dark Pictures Anthology, and The Quarry, all with varying degrees of success.
