With less than a month until release, the five DLC fighters for Nintendo’s highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been decided. Last night, series’ creator and the game’s director Masahiro Sakurai took to Twitter to announce that the DLC lineup is now complete. He would state that the final decision for these new fighters came from Nintendo with some input from Sakurai himself.
This is a bit different from the series’ last entry which saw the introduction of the “Fighter Ballot” where Super Smash Bros. fans got to nominate and vote for a character that would get to be part of the game. This resulted in Platinum Games’ Bayonetta winning and becoming the final DLC character for the game. Since fans didn’t get to help decide Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC, Sakurai would take to Twitter again to try and curb the constant bombardment of fighter suggestions.
Nintendo plans to roll out all five unannounced fighters by February 2020. Each fighter will be revealed one at a time and come with a stage and music tracks which will cost $5.99 USD a piece. Players can also purchase all five of the DLC fighter packs as part of the Fighter Pass for $24.99 USD. In addition to these DLC fighters, Piranha Plant was announced as a free downloadable character for players who purchase the game by January 31, 2019.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to release on December 7. Players can already purchase a special Nintendo Switch bundle themed around the game. For more information on the game, you can check out everything that was announced at the recent Nintendo Direct.
