Konami, the Japanese entertainment company, just announced that the 64-player battle royale Super Bomberman R Online has just reached 3 million downloads worldwide. A huge milestone for the game as it was just released on May 27, 2021. To commemorate this achievement, Konami will be giving away 500 “Bomber Coins,” Super Bomberman R Online’s in-game currency, on July 25. The Bomber Coins can be exchanged for playable characters, costumes, and bombskins. Even popular characters like the legendary hero Old Snake Bomber and Vic Viper Zero B Bomber will be amongst those who can be exchanged for Bomber Coins.
Super Bomberman R Online was originally available for download through Google Stadia in September 2020. It wasn’t until May 2021, that the game was released to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. During this time, the sequel title began to generate a lot more traffic since popular consoles began acquiring the game, although it is mere speculation, this could have been the move that got Super Bomberman R Online to surpass 3 million downloads.
The sequel is a spin-off from the main series title, Super Bomberman R, which was first launched as a title exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. Unlike the main series, Super Bomberman R Online solely focuses on the battle royale gameplay aspect, with Battle 64 as its main mode. In Battle 64, players are pit against 63 other players from various parts of the world in an explosive survival battle. You must fight your way to the end and outlast the other players in order to be crowned “bomber one.”
The game also offers a “Standard Mode” that supports up to 16 players at a time and a “Grand Prix” mode where players divide into two teams and compete to earn points, the team with the highest amount of points wins the game. With never-ending content and 3 million downloads and counting, finding people to play against shouldn’t be too challenging.
