It’s been a while since we last heard anything about Konami’s Super Bomberman R 2. The title was officially revealed in June 2022, and since then there’s been little to no mention of the franchise’s newest installment. That changed this week when the company finally revealed that Super Bomberman R 2 will officially launch on September 12 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC through Steam. The game is set to be released as a part of the franchise’s 40th Anniversary, making Bomberman one of the longest-tenured IPs in video game industry.
Konami also released a brand new trailer which showcases various game modes, as well as a confirmation that the title will support cross-play between systems. Considering that the title, and the franchise in general heavily markets multiplayer, this addition is an obvious choice. As well as the all time classic battle mode, Super Bomberman R 2 will also include a special Grand Prix mode where where up to 64 players, yes that many, will compete with each other at the same time in a battle royale style. There’s also a new mode, Castle mode, where players split up into a team of Attackers and Defenders where the former needs to find keys to unlocks chests and the latter has to protect the chests.
The previous entry, Super Bomberman R, released in 2017 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. The game was later ported to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2018. It then received a free-to-play spin-off in 2020, Super Bomberman R Online, which released for the ill-dated Stadia in 2020, and then all of the aforementioned consoles in 2021. The online title was officially shut down in December 2022.
Super Bomberman R 2 will officially launch on September 12, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC through Steam.
