To end our time at Summer Games Fest this year, we got to go hands-on with the upcoming heist game Snap & Grab from developer No Goblin and Annapurna Interactive. After spending an hour with the game, I don’t think I’ve seen a game combine two different games so seamlessly as this game does with Hitman (sans the violence) and Carmen Sandiego, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Snap & Grab puts you in the thieving shoes of photographer and criminal mastermind Nifty Nevada as she pulls off heists around the globe. The levels are very much modern Hitman inspired with lots to see and opportunities to discover as you are tasked with finding a way to achieve your goal of having your crew steal the piece you are there for. To do so, Nifty is equipped with her trusty camera and can take photos of important things that will help build the plan for you to complete the heist.

In the demo, we played two separate missions on the same map. The first had us tasked with stealing a crystal skull. Nifty had to find a way to distract guards to help her crew get to the skull and once she found that out she also had to figure out a way to deal with the securikitty Tony who would attack anyone who got close to the skull. The other mission had us stealing a key to the penthouse we were at and claiming the place as our own. Planning the heist has you placing the important pictures you took in an order that’ll make sense for you to see it through to completion. The best thing is you are able to add new pictures, reorder or delete them, and even try out the heist as many times as you want until you get it right. You don’t even need to fill out the entire timeline to be able to pull off a successful heist, but just enough so your crew can do it.

Outside of pulling off heists, there is also a photo challenge mode in the game. The challenge we had was to find a bowl of snacks next to a painting of said snacks. We snuck through the party, and down to the off limits basements and found the picture, but the bowl was empty. Thus, we had to go around the map and find all the snacks and bring back to the bowl to get the picture right.

Snap & Grab is a game that takes a spin on the modern Hitman franchise and combines it perfectly with the classic Carmen Sandiego feeling that is perfect for all ages. The game is set to release at some point next year.
