Summer Games Fest may be in the rear view, but we’re still talking about plenty of games we saw during the event. One such game was Galacticare which ended up being a hilarious space hospital management sim. We got to spend about 30 minutes with a hands-on demo of the game, and there was plenty of stuff we didn’t get to in that small amount of time.
In the demo, we were able to open our hospital and deal with a cavalcade of patients who needed treating following a music festival and all the injuries and illness that comes from attending one of those. We were thus given the task to build a plethora of rooms to diagnose and treat our patients. One such treatment was laser treatment to help patients suffering from “metal head,” literally.
Doctors must be assigned to each type of room rather that be diagnosing or treating patients. Each doctor has a specialty, indicated on their personnel hiring page, so it’s easy to figure out which doctor should be assigned where when hiring them. Luckily, if you can’t find a corresponding doctor for a room you can hire an intern which will eventually gain a specialty once they’ve spent enough time in a room.
There are multiple different species you get to interact with in the game as well with each one wanting a different aspect of your hospital to be a certain way to accommodate them. One species may want more spacious rooms while another will want more seating space. It’s up to you to make the adjustments needed to have the best hospital possible. There’s also specific high priority patients that’ll enter your hospital at certain points. Once you help their ailments, they are able to become consultants to your hospital and can be placed around to help out.
Overall, Galacticare looks to be a fun hospital sim that many will enjoy. The game is set to come out sometime later this year.
