While the main show ended with what’s next in the Final Fantasy VII remake world, at Summer Games Fest we got to play the other version of a remake in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. For those unaware, Ever Crisis is a mobile remake of the compilation of all the games in the Final Fantasy VII universe.
For this demo we played the tutorial as well as the opening mission of Final Fantasy VII. The game basically looks like an upgraded version of what the original game was. It is what you would expect from a straight remake of the what that game was when you’re in the over world with random encounters happening as well. Movement around the world can be down in two ways either by holding your finger in the direction you want to go or by tapping a spot and your character moving to that spot. The character portraits that come up look great whenever they pop up when a character is talking.
However, the biggest difference is the battle system. While still an active battle system, you get to choose between a few abilities while your character auto attacks. You don’t get to control your other party members outside of choosing when to use their Limit Break attacks. Despite that, the combat is still enjoyable, and I can’t wait to play more.
