Summer Games Done Quick 2021 Raises Nearly $3 Million

This past week, speedrunners across the country have come together to raise awareness and make donations to Doctors without Borders. This charity provides medical aid wherever it’s needed across the world and raises awareness for those who need humanitarian relief. This organization has been working together with Summer Games Done Quick for years in order to organize major donation events, each of which has raised millions for the cause. Most recently, SGDQ 2021, which ended today, raised over $2.8 million dollars for the cause!

As reported on SGDQ 2021’s website, there were 153 runs, 218 prizes given out, over 22,000 donors, and 40,342 donations, resulting in the largest SGDQ to date, beating out last years still impressive event by half a million dollars.

The event was held online this year because of circumstances related to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop speedrunners and audience members alike from all coming together to have fun raising money for a great cause. The event was a smash hit this year as well, with plenty of games, runners, and categories, all of which can be found on the Games Done Quick YouTube page. Some highlights this year included JCog’s Paper Mario run, havrd getting perfect score in GeoGuessr, and ZooKetra’s speedrun of Nintendogs (seriously, this event has everything)!

Games Done Quick’s next step will be Flame Fatales, an all female speedrunning event from August 15th to the 21st. The submission window is closed, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still have a chance to watch all the wild runs that go down.

The next GDQ event will take place next January from the 9th to the 16th, so don’t worry if you missed this one!
