As if the month of June wasn’t already crowded with E3 2021, we now have an official date for Geoff Keighly’s Summer Game Fest. The event will kick off on June 10, and will include a who’s who of video game companies and studios with a “premier showcase of announcements” similar to last years. The event’s date is also notable due to the fact that it will be just two days before E3 2021 commences. This more or less makes the Summer Game Fest an unofficial kick off to E3, but it also adds to the insanity of reveals and updates for the month of June.
According to the Summer Games Fest site, more than 30 publishers and studios will be taking part in the digital-only event, some of which are not participating at E3. This includes Sony, Blizzard Entertainment, Devolver Digital, and EA who is also hosting their own event, EA Play Live, later in July. Other well known studios that will be present include 2K, Epic Games, Microsoft, Capcom, Sega, and Ubisoft.
On top of all that, the event will have Weezer, yes we said Weezer, performing live and debuting a brand new song to boot. Geoff also clarified that you’ll be able to co-stream this part of the event with “zero restrictions” on streamers monetizing the performance. This is a notable point to bring up as Twitch has been cracking down on those playing licensed music in the past year. For those who are looking to co-stream the event, you shouldn’t have any issues staying live.
Last year the Summer Game Fest stretched through four months to make up for the lack of E3 due to the world wide effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since the big event is coming back this year, Geoff and company have decided to have the entire Summer Game Fest in one day, which means that there will more than likely be a plethora of big reveals and updates in that short time span.
The Summer Game Fest will officially kick off on June 10 at 11:00 AM PDT/2:00 PM PDT.
