Summer Game Fest 2026: Among Us Story: On Guard Preview: A Silly Single Player Story Full of Charm

Among Us took the world by storm during the pandemic and lockdown era thanks to an explosion in popularity from streamers playing it nonstop. It shot developer Innersloth into the stratosphere which has allowed them to do some really cool things since. Now, over a half decade since the game found success, Innersloth is releasing the first single player title with Among Us Story: On Guard. At Summer Game Fest, we got to go hands on with it and it was an absolute delight.

Among Us Story: On Guard sees you play as a crewmate who enters a simulation as the titular Guard. The simulation sees the Guard finding the Chef has been murdered by the Imposter hiding on the ship. Unfortunately, for the Guard, the rest of the crew doesn’t seem the brightest, and in an Emergency Meeting he gets voted as the Imposter and sentenced to be shot out the air lock. Luckily, the power goes out and the Guard is able to escape and conduct a search for the real Imposter.

Gameplay is the same as what you would expect from Among Us. The Guard must complete little minigame tasks like opening and locking doors with a key card or making coffee to short circuit a control panel. He’s even able to crawl through vents to get around the ship (though you will need directions to find your way around). You also get to talk to the other crewmates to find out some information, but again, how helpful they are really depends.

As you can expect from an Innersloth game, the writing is hilarious and there are sure to be a ton of laughs had while playing. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a while before playing as Among Us Story: On Guard does not have a release window as of yet.

Avid believer that video games present the best storytelling opportunities out of any media, and that needs to be conveyed. Former competitive Pokemon player. Attended university to study game development. Wouldn't be who I am today without games.
