Summer Game Fest 2026: Crimson Moon Preview Angels Over Zombies

Another title we got to spend time with at Play Days from ProbablyMonsters was Crimson Moon, an action role playing game set in the fictional city of Gildenarch. Your character, an avatar of a holy order using the powers of the angelic Nephilim, you hack-and-slash through hordes of zombies and demons. The Order of the Crimson Moon entrusts you with the city’s salvation. You have to choose your place of insertion in terms of the city, then pick your load-out and take a literal leap of faith out the front door descending to the combat area.

This one like many games in the current era is also steeped in the modern mechanics of light attack/heavy attack/parry. Your timing with regards of when to strike is everything to this title. If you strike nimbly, you vivisect your enemies with astounding precision, but a fraction of a second off, only a couple of hits find you dead, headed back to the monastery to prep for load-out again. Even failures give you the chance to upgrade your character’s abilities and modifiers. As you build focus, you can also temporarily transform into your angelic form, allowing you to Hulk smash through enemies with a massive boost of strength. That might be the biggest fun in the title as Crimson Moon leans more towards challenging than accessible. Evolving into the angelic form and tearing baddies to bits alleviates the pressure.

The game can be played either single player or in co-op mode. This allows players to share lives, resurrect one another and work together to slay the evil hordes. Crimson Moon will launch in September 2026.
