Summer Game Fest 2024: New Metaphor: ReFantazio Trailer, Showcase Highlights Archetypes Job System

A new trailer called “Awaken” was released for the highly anticipated Metaphor: ReFantazio. The new trailer provides a small glimpse into some of the Archetypes or jobs that players can choose from and how they play. The developers also released a new showcase for the game going into even more detail about the new Archetypes system.

Metaphor: ReFantazio features more than 40 archetypes that players can choose from, including the Masked Dancer, the Summoner, the Berserker, and many, many, more. There are 14 basic archetypes including the Magician, the Thief, the Seeker, and the Monk. Each archetype will have a lineage which contains more archetypes that will unlock as the game progresses. Each archetype gains experience through battle and learns various new skills. Strengthening the bonds with other characters will offer the ability for archetypes to evolve further.

More details about the battle system was given including a special technique called Synthesis. This allows for two characters to perform an attack in tandem with each other. Since it is a special action, Synthesis will take an additional action from an ally’s turn as well. Depending on what archetype is equipped, it will change what weapon the player is using during real-time combat.

Dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio will feature different types of enemies. Some will focus on ambushing the player, others will hide underground. No dungeons will require a specific type of archetype party. Those who are struggling during a dungeon can access the game’s network feature which provides a look at other players who have already cleared the dungeon and what type of archetype party was used.

Pre-orders for the Metaphor: ReFantazio digital version are available starting today. Bonuses for pre-ordering a archetype EXP chest set and the Adventurer’s journey pack. There are also special editions of the game that come with a whole bunch of goodies including a Steelbook, soundtrack, artbook, pins, stickers, and cloth map while supplies last.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is set to launch October 11, 2024.
