Following the cancelation of E3 this year, all eyes in the video game industry went to the Summer Game Fest showcase. Earlier this week, Geoff Keighley talked about how this year’s showcase will focus on previously announced games. Prior to the event, we learned of several games that would be making an appearance during the showcase including The Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, and more. Here is a recap of everything that was revealed during the Summer Game Fest showcase.
Street Fighter 6 is set to release next year in 2023. The first gameplay footage was released last week during PlayStation’s latest State of Play. Today, Guile was revealed as part of the game’s roster.
Aliens Dark Descent is a new game set in the Alien franchise where players command a squad of hardened Colonial Marines. The game will feature large, open levels where you will annihilate enemies with your squad. Players will dispatch orders strategically and intuitively at the touch of a button. As you play, the enemies will adapt their tactics to your actions while hunting you. Players can customize their squad with a selection of different classes where you can level up and specialize your soldiers with unique abilities and an arsenal of weapons, armor, and perks.
The Callisto Protocol was officially revealed last week. At Summer Game Fest, an extended gameplay trailer was released as well as the first official gameplay footage was revealed. The footage showcases several of the enemies that players will have to deal with as well as some of the arsenal of weapons that players will get to play with.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has been officially revealed and is set to release on October 28, 2022. During Summer Game Fest, a full playthrough of a mission was released. Dark Waters is a stealth mission aboard an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The mission is to get control of missiles that are targeted against the U.S.
Flashback was originally released back in 1992. It was ahead of its time due to the character animations and the rich and engaging story. To celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary, Flashback 2 was announced during Summer Game Fest. The story follows Conrad and his friends who are once again threatened by the Morphs.
Witchfire is a dark, fantasy first-person shooter set in an alternative world where witches are real and very dangerous. Players will take on the role if Witchhunters and take on the witches. A new gameplay trailer was released today during Summer Game Fest. The game will be available in Early Access soon.
Fort Solis is a new, single-player third-person thriller set over one long night on the far side of Mars. The game follows Engineer Jack Leary as he responds to a routine alarm where events unravel and escalates out of control in a way he could never have imagined. The game will star Troy Baker, Roger Clark, and Julia Brown.
Routine is a first-person sci-fi horror game set on an abandoned lunar base designed around an 80s vision of the future. As the player searches for answers, they will come face to face with an enemy who is certain that the main threat is you.
A new trailer was released for Outriders: Worldslayer. Worldslayer is a big, content update for Outriders featuring a new story campaign, new guns, gear, and a new endgame experience. A new Outriders Broadcast focused on the new Endgame loop will go live tomorrow, June 10.1
Stormgate is a free-to-play RTS game set amidst a war between humanity and an onslaught of alien invaders.
Highwater is a new adventure strategy game set in a world ravaged by extreme climate change. The game is set to release later this year.
American Arcadia is a new puzzle-platformer set in a 70s retro-futuristic metropolis where all of its citizens are being broadcast live 24/7 similar to The Truman Show. Players will take on the role of two characters in two different environments and unique playstyles. One character players will control is Trevor who is trying to escape from Arcadia which plays as a 2.5D action side-scroller with challenging platform action, breathtaking chases, stealth and puzzles. The other character helps Trevor escape and plays as a full 3D first-person game with hacking, exploration, stealth elements, and puzzles to solve.
Goat Simulator 3 has been announced. It’s set to release later this year.
New characters were revealed for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Venom, Spider-Man, and The Incredible Hulk will be joining the roster.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course new footage revealed. The footage showcased the new character Ms. Chalice in a new boss fight with a menacing snowflake.
A new gameplay trailer was released for Neon White. The game is set to release on June 16.
Developed a single developer, Midnight Fight Express follows a former member of a criminal underworld lured back into “the life” by a mysterious AI drone. The game features blockbuster combat where players can utilize the environment to take down enemies.
A first look at the next Warframe update, Echoes of the Zariman was released. The new update features major quality of life improvements and bug fixes, new Zariman-themed evolving weapons and customizations, and powerful buffs with the addition of Lohk Surges in Zariman missions.
A new trailer was released for Honkai Star Rail was released as well as a new trailer for Zenless Zone Zero.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is set to release next week on June 16. The trailer also revealed that Casey Jones will be a playable character. The game will also launch on Xbox via Game Pass.
Super People was released. A final beta for the game will be coming on August 17. A new developer livestream revealing more details is coming on June 16.
A new trailer was released for One Piece Odyssey. The new trailer featured a cinematic as well as new gameplay footage. The game will be released in 2022.
Soulhackers 2 is coming later this year in August. A new trailer showcasing the English voice cast was released.
Metal: Hellsinger is a new rhythm first-person shooter where shooting on the beat enhances the gameplay experience. A demo is available now on Steam. The game will be released on September 15.
The launch trailer for The Quarry was revealed. The game launches tomorrow, June 10.
Nightingale is a new shared-world crafting game revealed during The Game Awards last year. A new trailer showcasing some of the game’s mechanics was released. One of the main features that was showcased was the card mechanic. Realm cards influence where players travel to.
Saints Row Boss Factory is a demo for the upcoming Saints Row reboot. The demo allows players to make their Boss character, utilizing the game’s robust character customization system and is available to try now.
Warhammer 40K: Darktide is set to release on September 13, 2022. The game will be available on PC and on Xbox. The game is also coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Bloober Team has announced Layers of Fears. The game “is built upon the foundations of the original Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear: Inheritance, and Layers of Fear 2.” Bloober Team is co-developing the game with Anshar Studios who released Gamedec last year.
“We are bringing back a franchise that is really special for us, in a new form that will give players a truly fresh gaming experience and that will shed new light on the overall story,” Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno said in a news release. “Our plan was to recreate the games, but we didn’t want to make it a simple collection of two remastered games. We’ve worked out a new approach, something that is maybe not yet obvious. But I can tell you there’s a reason why we called it Layers of Fears.”
Gotham Knights new gameplay trailer was released. The new trailer focuses on Nightwing, one of the game’s playable characters. Players can also choose to play as Batgirl, Robin, or Red Hood. The game is set to release on October 25, 2022.
The Last of Us Part I, leaked earlier today is a built from the ground-up remake of the first game made for the PlayStation 5. The game is also in development for PC. The Last of Us Part I implements modernized gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options in this single-player experience to allow even more individuals to enjoy the game. Effects, exploration, and combat have all been enhanced.
In addition, Naughty Dog also talked about the standalone multiplayer experience announced several years ago. Naughty Dog said that the standalone multiplayer “something much larger than a mode. We’re thrilled to share a piece of concept art from our upcoming multiplayer experience, which is an extremely ambitious undertaking. We’re growing our studio significantly to ensure we build this full-scale, standalone game, with its massive scope and immense world, in a way that fans have come to expect from The Last of Us and Naughty Dog.” More information will be revealed next year.
