The rumors are unfortunately untrue. Sucker Punch has provided video game fans a number of amazing legacy franchises, but unfortunately for many fans, those franchises are currently in the back burner. On July 1st, 2022, the Washington-based game developer announced their decision on their website, to the understanding sadness of fans.
In their announcement, Sucker Punch stated the increasing scale and complexity of their games had influenced their decision. Sucker Punch is proud of their legacy franchises, however they need all of their resources into handling their next project. They continue, stating that while these are their current plans, they are not saying that they will never revisit those franchises in the future.
They went on to state that maintenance on inFAMOUS 2 UGC servers will continue, with future plans to move those servers to a new home that will keep running a bit longer. They recognized that fans still enjoyed these games but state that those servers will eventually need to be closed.
There was no time given to the date that they will officially close down, as Sucker Punch stated that they wanted to keep them running for as long as possible. Sucker Punch continued, stating that they’re working to put Cole’s Legacy DLC for inFAMOUS Second Son, which until now was only available in the inFAMOUS: Second Son’s Collector’s Edition, on PlayStation Store in all territories for fans who had yet to play it.
Sucker Punch concluded, thanking fans for their support and to look forward to the future projects that they have in store.
“…Your love and appreciation are what fuel us to keep making new games and new worlds, and we look forward to continuing to bring new and exciting ideas to life for many years to come. We’re not ready to talk about whatever might be next, but we hope you’ll keep following us whenever we’re ready to share more…”
