The developer of Streets of Rage 4 has a new home. The French video game developer and publisher Dotemu has been officially acquired by fellow French publisher Focus Home Interactive, with the latter doing so with a majority purchase of the studio’s stock in the European Stock Market. According to a press release, Focus Home Interactive purchased a 77.5% share of Dotemu which equates to approximately 38.5 million Euros. In addition, Focus Home Interactive also invested 15 million Euros for conditional future revenue, which means that the money invested does not hold any real value until the studio is considered as such with new projects and based potential performance.

The press release also mentions that Cyrille Imbert will remain CEO of Dotemu, and will also serve as Managing Director for soon to be created indie game publishing sector for Focus Home Interactive. Any projects that were started before the acquisition will continue to progress. This includes Metal Slug Tactics, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Windjammers 2. The latter is a highly anticipated sequel to the 1994 classic and is currently scheduled to launch later this year, albeit without a release date.
As we already mentioned, Dotemu is the developer and publisher of Streets of Rage 4, a side-scrolling beat ’em up title that launched in 2020 for numerous platforms. The title is a full fledged sequel to the original Streets of Rage trilogy that became famous on the Sega Genesis in the 1990’s. The game was praised for its excellent mechanics, and was critically acclaimed for the stunning and beautiful art style. To further emphasize this point, the press release also stated that Streets of Rage 4 has been played by more than 2.5 million players world wide. The game was also available on the Xbox Game Pass for a time so that more than likely contributed to this overall statistic.
