The legends of old are being retold in modern time. Summerfall Studios is currently developing an urban fantasy role playing game that is also a musical narrative game. Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is a narrative game that is being made using Unreal Engine 4 and will be published by Humble Bundle. Based on Greek mythology, players will take on the role of a college dropout named Grace. On fateful day, Grace encounters Calliope, the Greek Muse of Epic Poetry. Calliope has been mortally wounded and in her final breathes gives Grace her powers. The gift of voice now belongs to Grace. Summerfall Studios released a new trailer giving fans an encore of what’s to come in this modern day epic.
In this hand drawn narrative game, the other Gods blame Calliope’s death on Grace. Athena has her on trial and is ready to cast judgement on her. Grace wants to prove her innocence and asks for a chance to prove it. The Gods agreed to give her a week to prove herself innocent. She must then investigate what really happened to Calliope. Along with her friend Freddie, Grace will encounter other Gods and beings in her search for the truth. As an narrative game, there are dialogue options that players will choose from. From the trailer, we see the different options Grace must talk to Pan. The dialogue options will affect how the musical performance will be directed. Players will find their voice as their decisions will affect the outcome of the story as they interact through the different musical numbers. With many variants of musical performances, players will be able to craft their own personal touch to the scenes.
The musical numbers are composed by Grammy nominated composer, Austin Wintory, the Australian music group Tripod (Scott Edgar, Steven Gates, and Simon Hall) and Montaigne (Jess Cerro.) The musicals are all fully orchestrated and are performed by an all-star cast, all working together to bring the musical narrative to life. The casting is as follows:
