Netflix’s original sci-fi hit, Stranger Things, is invading the Minecraft world through a skin pack releasing the same day as the show’s season two premiere.
While there were multiple trailers for Stranger Things leading up to its Oct. 27 return, Mojang waited until the series dropped its second season to release their own trailer for the DLC pack in a press release. Blocky versions of Barb, Dustin, Eleven, Joyce, Lucas, Mike, Will and other notable characters were shown off earlier today. However, the pack includes some characters and outfits from the second season, so those wishing to avoid spoilers should hold off from purchasing the pack until they complete the new episodes.
“Prepare for some spooky retro adventures as you go investigating the shocking arrival of the new Stranger Things skin pack,” the press release reads. “Break into a classified facility with Hopper, kick off some Dungeons and Dragons with Mike or heck, why not go totally telekinetic with Eleven?”
The trailer, which opens with the show’s theme, gives a glimpse of the cast in their Minecraft incarnations and a few recreations of iconic scenes like Barb’s otherworldly encounter at the pool and Will’s time in the Upside Down. Skins are not limited to human characters either, as the elusive monster known as the Demogorgon is included in the pack.
This is not first time Stranger Things gets a video game appearance, as an official mobile game was released for free earlier this month. An update to the title was added today, bringing new content based on season two. Like today’s Minecraft DLC, Stranger Things: The Game was released with no prior advertising.
Pop culture crossovers are pretty common for the 2009 game, spanning shows, movies and other video games. Television series, such as Adventure Time, Doctor Who and The Simpsons have each had either skin or mashup packs for the block-building, world-exploring game. Other franchises, like Fallout, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Elder Scrolls and Star Wars have been DLC packs in the game’s eight year history.
Minecraft‘s Stranger Things skin pack is available for $2.99 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, along with mobile and older console versions.
