Retro, retro, retro. Everything is coming up retro! With the recent announcement of the Stranger Things Season 3 trailer showing off the summer adventures of the familiar crew and cast of the haunted 80’s series, BonusXP got to work. BonusXP have been the developers for the past two Stranger Things mobile games, both for the first and second based on the first and second seasons of the show, and had announced a third back in December. They were pretty big hits, and were pixelated retro versions of the hit Netflix series. But when the third season was announced, it was a question of when the third game might show up. The previous two didn’t release until after the first two seasons had been up, but this time BonusXP planned something special.
That something special? Stranger Things 3: The Game’s promo trailer was the exact set-up as the series trailer, but done in the familiar isometric pixel design:
Just as silly (if not a little sillier) as the original trailer, Stranger Things 3: The Game does have some different modifications that its mobile predecessors. That being that this game won’t be mobile exclusive. While it is still going to be released for mobile devices, Stranger Things 3: The Game will also be available on just about everything. PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Mac. Okay, so yeah, this game is coming out on everything.
But there’s something a little more special about this game than the previous two as well. In the third installment, players can play with friends in a split screen local co-op to team up and go through all the puzzles and baddies. With the inclusion of 12 different characters to choose from, with some that haven’t been featured in the previous two games. Each character is stated to have their own set of skills to use in specific situations. Sadly, however, there is no online co-op with this one, so it is meant to be played as a binge-watching playthrough combo.
Oh, that’s right. Stranger Things 3: The Game is set to come out on the exact same day as Stranger Things Season 3 is set to air. BonusXP seems to be considering watching and playing through at the same time. Get spooked and be able to fight the new monster at the same time? Sounds like a fun time, especially if you’ve got a friend to join you.
Stranger Things 3: The Game will be available July 4, 2019 on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Grab a friend, grab some popcorn, and have one crazy night.
