Well the Mortal Kombats of today don’t exactly elicit any sort of positive emotional response but what about the Mortal Kombats of yesteryear? As revealed as the Sony State of Play, Mortal Kombat is officially getting a remastered restoration project via the team at Digital Eclipse with Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection.

As with the previous digital restorations Digital Eclipse have done, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection will feature several of the legacy games in the franchise, culture defining classics from Mortal Kombat’s golden age: Mortal Kombat 1 (the original one from 1992 not the one from 2023), Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Mortal Kombat 4 is also there.

This collection will feature rollback netcode for those that really want to experience the absolute, unadulterated janky soul of early to mid 90s fighting games with other players online and get hit with jab infinites on block in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection will also feature an interactive documentary with Ed Boon and John Tobias, the creators of the legendary fighting game franchise, as well as interviews with other people who made the Mortal Kombat IP what it is today such as Sonya Blade actress Kerri Hoskins.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection is launching later this year for Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, and you can wishlist it right now.

Derek Lairmore: I've been playing video games and writing my entire life, so naturally I decided to combine the two passions. I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
