Each passing day marks one day closer to the release of Starfield following multiple delays. Today, the release feels more concrete than ever with the ESRB providing rating for the game. The M rating suggests that the game is on track for release. Starfield is rated M for “blood, strong language, suggestive themes, use of drugs, and violence. The ESRB also notes that Starfield will contain in-game purchases.
In the rating summary, the ESRB said that Starfield is “an open-world role-playing game in which players assume the role of a miner tasked with finding Artifacts across the galaxy. From first-/third-person perspectives, players interact with various characters, complete quests, and search for supplies while battling enemies (e.g., humans, robots, alien creatures).
The ERSB also touched on combat in the game which is “fast-paced, with frequent gunfire, cries of pain, and explosions. Attacks on some enemies can result in blood-splatter effects; several environments depict blood stains on the ground around corpses.” Players will use futuristic guns, lasers, axes, and explosives.
The ESRB also talked about some of Starfield’s suggestive material including some examples of what can be said after sharing a bed with characters. “Life is a sexually transmitted disease that’s a hundred percent fatal”; “I’m all for getting a little wild, but next time let’s try it without the jetpacks”; “Talk about seeing stars, whew… that was amazing.”
There will also be a fictional drug called Aurora that will be prominent in the game. There is a section that involves players’ characters working in an illicit drug lab. Players can also buy and steal Aurora from vendors. Consuming the drug will result in a distortion effect that appears on the screen. The words “f**k” and “bullsh*t” appear in the game.
Starfield is set for launch on September 6, 2023. A new look at the game is coming in a few weeks on June 11, 2023, at Starfield Direct which is right after the Xbox Games Showcase. The Showcase is set to take place at 10 am PT.
