Developer ConcernedApe has been releasing daily patch notes for update 1.6 of Stardew Valley in the week ahead of its launch on March 19, revealing a new farm type, bug fixes, and the ability to drink mayonnaise.
The updates have come from ConcernedApe’s Twitter account, where they have posted a single patch note each day since March 11. They stressed that these reveals would be “non-spoilery,” so it is likely that there will be much more to come once the update releases.
The highlight of the pre-release teases is the new farm type, Meadowlands Farm, which “has a chewy blue grass that animals love.” The farm starts with a coop and two chickens.
Moving backwards, the update will now allow for players to directly drink mayonnaise. No other details were added, but it is only natural to assume that there will be no benefits to doing this. Regardless, it’s nice to have the option.
Continuing with food-related updates, jelly, pickles, wine, and juices have received a visual update to match them with the color of their ingredients. Fruit trees have also been changed to produce the same quality of sapling as the tree it came from, with higher quality saplings maturing faster.
Spouses will have a seven-day honeymoon period after being married, in which they will not spend all day in bed because they are upset, meaning players will be free from marital problems for at least a week.
On the mechanical side of things, a bug was fixed that caused right-to-left harvesting to function slower than left-to-right. They are now at an equal speed, the faster of the two. Downward facing melee attacks will now have the same area of effect as any other direction, despite its smaller range in the attack animation. Finally, the time needed to push against a pet for it to let the player through has been halved from 1.5 seconds to 0.75 seconds.
ConcernedApe also stated that many mods have already been updated for Version 1.6, though there will be an option to remain on Version 1.5.6 if a player wishes. The update will release sometime during the day tomorrow, though the exact time is dependent on when ConcernedApe is awake.
