Fans of the action-adventure game Starbound will be pleased to hear that the Bounty Hunter Update, almost two years in the making, is finally available. First announced in September of 2017, the update promised players the chance to play space-cop, assisting a brand new organization, called the Peacekeepers, in tracking down some of the galaxy’s most nefarious criminals. While there were some minor updates shortly after the release of the Spacefarer Update in June 2017, things have been relatively quiet since the 1.3.3 patch in October 2017.
Spacebound is a procedurally generated action-adventure game released in July 2016 by developer Chucklefish, who also developed Wargroove released earlier this year. The game takes place after the destruction of Earth, where the player is launched into a vast sandbox-style universe. Players can choose to follow the main story, or accept quests, all while exploring the universe around them, fighting all sorts of different enemies, and decking out their ship with cool stuff they come across.
Players will be able to ride through the ranks of the Peacekeeper organization by accepting procedurally generated bounty missions. Once given their target, players will make their way through the hideouts of the criminal groups, which include final mission boss fights. Players can also complete new quests following their careers through with the Peacekeepers. The update not only introduces bounty hunters to the world of Spacebound, but also a slew of new furniture, weapons, armor, and a new tool called the Mining Laser. New enemies will also threaten the safety of the galaxy, including new Elemental Monsters that can be captured and added to a brand new collection. You can check out the full patch notes on Steam.
Starbound including the new Bounty Hunter Update is available now on Windows, OS X, and Linux, with console versions for the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the PlayStation Vita, currently in development.
