Today marks a special day for BioWare Austin. Their major IP, Star Wars: The Old Republic, has just achieved a major milestone, reaching its 10th year in existence. Considering that they’ve been doing this with two other major MMORPGs in the market, World of Warcraft, and the unstoppable juggernaut that is Final Fantasy XIV, this is an extremely impressive feat. The developer has announced that they will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Star Wars: The Old Republic with a look back to when they started, and how far they’ve come.

Players of the MMORPG can look forward to several different rewards and perks for the celebration, which range from a variety of things. One of the cooler aspects about this is that a lot of these rewards will be available all the way until December 2023. This includes any existing and new rewards that were just added, as well as any additional items you can buy within the game itself with a discount. They also revealed that a special double XP event will commence starting today, and will run all the way through January 4, 2022.
On top of all this, BioWare Austin also states that even more rewards would be coming once the latest update, 7.0, is patched into the title. That update will also include the long-awaited expansion, Legacy of the Sith. The developer motioned that the expansion would also be the first major step towards a graphical overhaul, and re-introducing the user interface for players new and old. They also stated that more daily quests, events, and other alleyways and avenues will become more standard.
It’s been quite a journey for Star Wars: The Old Republic, starting out 10 years to the day and going through a lot, to say the least. The popularity has since dwindled, especially with the recent advent of the indestructible monster that is Final Fantasy XIV, but for those who stayed, they’ve been rewarded with a plethora of content, including 8 expansions. BioWare even stated earlier this year that they have no intentions to end the game and shut down servers, as it is still going strong, regardless of the stiff competition.
