Last week, a leak revealed that the rumored Star Wars game Maverick is real and is called Star Wars: Squadrons. After the leak, EA officially confirmed the news with the announcement of the reveal trailer that was released today. Alongside the trailer, EA has detailed some more information about the game. The information also revealed that the world gameplay premiere will occur during EA Play Live later this week on Thursday, June 18 at 4 pm PST. EA Play Live was set to take place on June 11 but was postponed due to the Black Lives Matter protests after the death of George Floyd.
In Star Wars: Squadrons, players will compete in intense 5v5 dogfights where you and your squadron will fight to tip the scales in monumental fleet battles. You’ll be able to pilot all types of legendary starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets such as the X-wing, A-wing, TIE fighter, and TIE bomber. Players will be able to modify their ships and divert power between its systems as they battle in strategic space dogfights.
One of the features of the game includes the briefing room where squadrons will plan every skirmish before taking off to evolving battlefields such as the gas giant of Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan. The game seems to take place in first-person as you feel the intensity of combat with just a thin hull of metal and glass between you. The game can also be played entirely in VR on PC and PlayStation 4. Star Wars: Squadrons will include thrilling multiplayer modes and a unique single-player campaign Star Wars story set near the conclusion of the Galatic Civil War. The game will include rewards that you earn through play. You can unlock new components like weapons, hulls, engines, shields, and cosmetic items. The game launches on October 2, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
