The team behind Star Wars: Squadrons is getting in the holiday spirit! New content will be rolled out in the coming months — all free of charge. This November, a new map and ship parts will be added to the game; then in December, players will be able to fly with two brand-new ships. In a Pilot Briefing posted to the Star Wars: Squadron website, developers explained how “the [game’s] reception was so much more than we could have hoped for,” and because of this outpouring of support, developers are gifting players with the free DLC.
In the November update, a new map will be added to multiplayer. Players will already be familiar with Fostar Haven, a fan-favorite location first seen in the single-player story. According to the Pilot Briefing, Fostar Haven is “Set in a remote, lawless area of space under the light of twin stars…the denizens of Fostar Haven have made a few upgrades to their station, trusting neither the Empire nor the New Republic.” Update 3.0 will add the map to Fleet Battles and the Dogfight mode.
Next month’s update also comes with four new components to the game. A Boost Extension Kit will give starfighters a full boost and will refuel after use. Ion Rockets will appear in the game and “will be great for hit-and-run attacks to strip enemy shields.” Prototype Piercing Torpedos will bypass a capital ship’s shields. Lastly, the Anti-Material Rocket Turret will be good for taking on capital ships and flagships.
The second update will come to the game in December, and with it, two new starfighters. Both the New Republic and the Galactic Empire will be getting a new ship to join squadrons. The Blade Wing or B-wing will be joining the New Republic; and the Empire’s answer to it is the TIE Defender. The B-wing will be classified as a bomber and the TIE Defender will be in the fighter class. The Pilot Briefing says compared to the original ships, the B-wing and the TIE Defender. “aren’t outright better by default,” and that players should pick based on their own playstyle. Both ships will be able to play in VR.
The team behind Star Wars: Squadrons is giving fans two sweet gifts this year. Update 3.0’s new map and four components will be downloadable on November 25. The two new starfighters, the B-wing and TIE Defender, will be available in the second update sometime in December.
