Ubisoft has been having a year that, diplomatically speaking, hasn’t met their expectations. Star Wars Outlaws was meant to serve as a major hit for the company, but has underperformed. This underperformance has led to a less than stellar first few weeks post launch. Most reviews have not been particularly glowing based on the launch content. In response to these revelations Ubisoft has announced plan to release a series of updates to the game and hopefully get it back on track to what it was meant to be. In a tweet from the Star Wars Outlaws account, they shared a roadmap for the first few title updates expected to come in the next two months.
First is Title Update 2, set to hit the game on October 3rd, this upcoming Thursday. According to the roadmap, this first update is designed around bug fixes and improvements. While the first suggests an attention to issues brought forth by the player base, improvements is a bit more vague in its area of focus, especially considering the relatively short turn around time. This is a theme that the roadmap has in spades.
Second is Title Update 3, which is coming October 24th, later that month. This update is focused on quality of life improvements. While quality of life improvements are always appreciated in live service games, it’s unusual for these updates to be happening so soon. Also, quality of life improvements is a very nebulous description of an update, and specifics might not be available until much closer to that release.
Finally Title Update 4, set to come out on November 21st, is sharing its release date with the Steam release of the game and Story Pack 1. This title update will focus on combat and stealth improvements, two core tenets of the game. Besides that, new contracts will also be available as new content.
Overall, Ubisoft’s plan to get Star Wars Outlaws to start producing the results they wanted from is set to kick off shortly. Whether it will be as successful as they hope it to be remains to be seen. With the game’s cool reception, a campaign to improve it might not be as fruitful as anyone hopes. Besides that, the updates seem incredibly close together for a live service game, and might be hard deadlines to meet for the teams involved. Players will get their first taste this Thursday, October 3rd, when Title Update 2 will be released.
