Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay Showcase From Ubisoft Forward June 2024

Star Wars Outlaws has released a gameplay showcase during the Ubisoft forward on June 10th, 2024. The ten minute feature begins on a black market space station with Kay and Nix on the hunt for an expert Gunslinger that takes them to Tatooine. As explained by video narrator Mathias Karlson – the game’s director, experts are a special system of NPCs that can help Kay learn new skills, or enhance existing techniques in order to better prepare her for the obstacles she’ll encounter as someone working in the galactic underworld. Continuing on, most merchants encountered in the game will have connections to syndicates. The syndicates have different areas of influence and depending on the player’s actions throughout the game, the syndicates will have different relationships with the player and offer possible unique narrative elements.

After exiting the space station, the gameplay has us hearing a distress call in space around a planet and offering aid, engaging in a small battle to earn a few credits. After that Kay hyperspace jumps to Tatooine where the familiar Hutt cartel is in control. In Mos Eisley we’re treated to a bit more exploration and interaction with NPCs, and confirmation that Outlaws takes place before the defeat of the Empire, with Imperial presence on Tatooine noted. The stealth and combat section reminds me of a Batman: Arkham game a bit, as Kay knocks out some guards with some punches, and then hits one with a blaster bolt. During this process, Nix, her small animal companion, is able to send out a sonar-like wave that allows the player to see nearby enemies in a small area. Finally after blasting her way out of tight spot, Kay finds the gunslinger, but that’s not the end of her adventure with him

Overall this game looks huge, with every planet having its own space around it to explore, as well as everything on each world, it seems absolutely massive. It also seems like it will have a similarly large amount of narrative opportunities, some that might also lend the game to replay ability in the future. Expect more to come as we approach the Star Wars Outlaws release date on August 30th, 2024.
