After Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was announced back in May 2022, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order fans highly anticipated its release. Since then, the game’s developer Respawn Entertainment has gradually revealed more information about the sequel, the latest being a story trailer revealing new and returning characters. Just recently, additional details concerning game mechanics were revealed.
Respawn held a Jedi: Survivor preview event in Los Angeles last week. Numerous media outlets attended the event, where they were each given roughly three to four hours to play hands-on previews for Jedi: Survivor. The previews were covered earlier today, which revealed key gameplay features for the upcoming sequel.

Jedi: Survivor features five combat stances: Single Lightsaber, Double-bladed lightsaber, Dual Wield Lightsaber, Crossguard Lightsaber, and a Blaster stance; all of which are meant to provide unique methods to combat enemies. In the game’s early stages, players can use three stances and all basic force abilities from Jedi: Fallen Order. Some new abilities include Force Confusion, which turns enemies against each other briefly, and Tame, which renders various creatures mountable.
On Jedi: Survivor‘s combat, Respawn game director Stig Asmussen commented, “One thing I think we looked at in the first game is that that power curve came in a little bit too late. You didn’t really start feeling like you had [power], which is by design, you’re this raw and incomplete Padawan that hasn’t been trained in years. We wanted the player to feel that. And it’s around 60% into the first game, you start to feel like, ‘hey, I got a lot of powers right now that I can use to manipulate and eventually dominate both combat and the environment.’ And we definitely want that to come in a little bit sooner on this game because Cal is further along on his path.”
Outside of combat, Jedi: Survivor also features a vibrant open world, fluid graphics and animations, and advanced customization options. The developers have implemented these mechanics to build on the Jedi: Fallen Order‘s foundation and make the sequel “an even more exciting experience”.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Survivor is set to release on April 28th, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows.
