Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Shows Off Long Awaited Gameplay at E3

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been under wraps since it was announced. Not much had been shared about it (save for the announcement and that it would be coming to E3 this year) due to the team up of EA and Lucasfilms wanting to keep just about most of it a surprise. But with all the anticipation towards some of it being revealed at E3, the time has finally come.

The EA Play panel at E3 has finally given us more of a sneak peek for what’s to come in the upcoming Jedi story. The gameplay video is told that it’s roughly 3 hours into the game where our protagonist Cal is not quite a Jedi yet, but is no longer a Padawan. The current mission puts him on the planet Kashyyyk, the home of the Wookies were an Imperial Refinery has taken over. Here, it’s up to Cal to free the Wookies from the Troopers so that way they can help along the way with taken the enemy forces out.

Here we are introduced to Cal’s partner droid, the BD-1 (or Buddy Droid 1). The BD-1 is more than just Cal’s companion through the story, but serves to help Cal through his adventures. BD-1 is able to hack computers and doors, he can scan the environment for more lore building and planet information. He’s also able to give Cal healthpacks, however, these healthpacks are a limited amount and should be used sparingly as there aren’t many within the game.

Certain gameplay mechanics have finally been revealed as well. Showing off the parkour and free-climbing that Cal can do throughout the refinery to get where he needs to (and surely to explore as well). For combat, Cal has his lightsaber and the Force that he can use to his ability for both fighting and getting from one place to the next. The lightsaber can be thrown and retrieved, used for deflects, parries, and slashes. He’s able to gain skillpoints from fighting that he can use to upgrade and learn new moves with the Force. This includes Push, Pull, Slow, and more.

For enemies, there is the classic Storm Troopers that show up, as well as the Flame Troopers and Scout Troopers. And a new, original, Trooper that’s new with this game which is the Verge Trooper which is shown to wield a double-sided electric weapon and be higher up on the Trooper chain.

The gameplay video finally ends with Cal getting ready to free the Wookies and gain their companionship, but not before the KX droid makes a return, and it looks like that will be an inevitable boss fight. Only clips from that fight is shown, as there still has to be some surprises for when the game comes out.

After the trailer finished, there was a few key points that were revealed about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Namely, that this game will be in the cannon for the Star Wars franchise. The plot is still a mystery as Lucasfilms and EA are being tight lipped about it. And while in previous Star Wars games there were options to either choose the light or the dark side, this is specifically a Jedi story, so there is no option of which side to take. And, there is no confirmation on whether Watto is in the story or not.

Jedi: Fallen Order is set to come out November 15, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
