Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has the Fastest Selling Digital Launch in the Franchise’s History

It’s been nearly two weeks since EA and Respawn Entertainment launched Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Oder. For the most part, the game has been well received by not only the Star Wars community, but the video game community as well. This is no more evident than with EA’s recent press release where they have revealed that it is now the fastest selling digital launch title for a Star Wars game. In addition, it also has the distinction of being the best selling EA Star Wars game on PC within it’s initial two week launch period which is an impressive feat in an of itself.

EA doesn’t actually state how many digital units have sold in the press release, but to put things in perspective, Fallen Order most likely had to outperform the previous two EA Star Wars titles, the Battlefront series. Star Wars Battlefront shipped roughly 13 million units in it’s initial launch quarter during the 2015 holidays, while Battlefront II sold approximately 9 million within it’s launch quarter of the 2017 holiday’s. According to EA, Fallen Order has surpassed both of these numbers in terms of their initial launch, which also makes it their first successful single player Star Wars game.

Vince Zampella, the head of Respawn Entertainment, stated in the press release that he and the team couldn’t be happier with the reception, “On behalf of Respawn and EA, we thank everyone for their support of the studio and the team throughout the development and launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Telling a story in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true and the reception from the fans has been incredible.” Zampella’s excitement is more than validated, as fans have been clamoring for a tried and true Star Wars experience with an excellent story line. Judging by the current reviews from critics and fans, it’s safe to say that Respawn has delivered on that request

Prior to Fallen Order’s release, Bioware’s RPG epic Knights of the Old Republic was considered to be the best game in the franchise. That game launched way back in 2003, and despite some good runs in between by Lucas Arts Jedi Knight and The Force Unleashed, KOTOR is still held in high esteem within the community. While it’s too early to tell if Fallen Order will reach those same heights, the game is at least something that the Star Wars fans can wrap their arms around and thoroughly enjoy.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Steam and EA’s Origin.
