Star Wars: Battlefront New Battle Mode to Come in Death Star DLC

During yesterday’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Electronic Arts announced new details for their Star Wars: Battlefront’s upcoming downloadable content expansion, Death Star. Based off one of the most iconic fictional galactic superweapons ever created, Star Wars’ Death Star is now the set location for the new Battlefront’s DLC. This new DLC looks to top any of the previous DLC’s in their ambition; it allows players to head out into deep space and do some battling.

It’s something fans have been desperately waiting for ever since Battlefront was brought back to gamers. It’s been over a decade since Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was released and its space combat proved to be quite popular amongst gamers. So when EA announced that they’re were going to release a DLC titled Death Star, most thought that the gameplay would consist of fighting inside of it. But with the new details that have emerged out of Gamescom, it looks like gamers will be free from the confines of land and will, instead, be able to fight in space. Here’s a look at a teaser trailer released back in July:

According to Polygon, the all new mode will be called Battle Station. Unlike any other game mode currently in Battlefront, Battle Station will be split into three different phases, and all will have different objectives. The objective for the first phase will be to weaken the Star Destoryer’s defenses. You will need your Rebel forces to destroy enough TIE fighters so that your Y-wing support team can come in to attack the Star Destroyer’s defenses. This phase then will consist of flying against TIE fighters and TIE interceptors while you fly X-wings and A-wings.

The second phase will be set inside the space station, many are inspired by the classic film trilogy. In this phase, your primary objective will be extract a droid stored within the Death Star. In this phase players will take a ground assault on the Death Star itself. Amid all of the chaos, players will be able to choose to play as Bossk and Chewbacca, as they are the latest expansion pack’s newest heroes. Once completing this phase, the third and final phase kick in.

The last phase will consist of players heading back to space where you’ll need to fight alongside the Rebels to end the fighting once and for all, if you’ve seen the movie, you know what this means: blowing up the Death Star! Playing as Luke Skywalker, you’ll need to fly in his Red-5 X-wing to attempt to destroy the Empire’s Death Star. But it’s easier than it sounds; Darth Vader has been sent out to protect the Death Star and he is hopping on his TIE Advanced to stop you.

According to Star Wars Battlefront blog, “Other new content will also be coming to the Death Star expansion including new Star Cards and Blasters.” The Star Wars Battlefront Death Star expansion pack is set to be released sometime in September. EA will also release a fourth DLC, Rouge One: Scarif, later in the year. But for now, we’ll have to wait for September to come around, and if you’re a Season Pass holder, you will get Death Star two weeks early.
