After three years, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been completed, at least in the words of the developer DICE. The final update released on the 29th of April and is called “Age of Rebellion”. As the name implies, the update focuses on the original trilogy of films and its immediate prequel Rogue One. The new update mostly revolves on the planet of Scariff and its major battle. The Scariff map will be available in Supremacy, Co-Op, and Instant Action along with Hoth, Death Star II, Tatooine, and Yavin 4.
Since Scariff is guarded by a shield gate in the film and the Death Star II battle takes place inside the station, the second stage of supremacy will remain on the ground instead of ascending the conflict to the interior of an Imperial Star Destroyer or an MC80 Star Cruiser. So far with the other maps, supremacy will play out the same.
In addition to the new maps, Imperial Shoretroopers will be added as a new skin for players and the Rebellion is getting the Pathfinder skins. Some heroes are receiving new skins. Darth Maul has a new skin based on his Clone Wars appearance, equipped with robotic legs. Both Rey and Palpatine are receiving new skins based off of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey dons her normal robes but has a yellow-colored lightsaber, a rarity in the Star Wars universe, and Palpatine has more luxurious red and black robes. Kylo Ren is receiving a new skin but, Dice has not released an image.
“Age of Rebellion” is getting some minor additions to the “Heroes vs. Villians” mode. An interior hanger of the Resistance stronghold on Crait is a new map. CO-OP mode has received brand new maps based on the interiors of the Resurgent Star Destroyer, and MC80 Star Cruiser. Additionally, CO-OP can now be played offline with three AI-controlled partners. The update finishes with a plethora of quality of life fixes and balancing tweaks.
From everyone on the Star Wars Battlefront II team, we thank you. Thank you for being a part of everything we’ve done, and for being the best community we could have asked for. May the Force be with you. Always.
This will be the last update for Star Wars Battlefront II. Dice has described the game as being complete and are focusing on upcoming new Battlefields and possibly a new Battlefront. Dice has promised to continue to support the game in terms of technical support and monitoring of cheats and exploits.
