We’re only a little more than a week away from the release of the anticipated Star Ocean: The Second Story R. The remake of the all time classic JRPG officially launches next week on November 2, and is the third iteration of the 1998 title. Square Enix released a launch trailer to coincide with the incoming release, which is filled to the brim with voice acting, gameplay, and some major story aspects.

It’s important to note that the trailer does have some major plot lines shown. Therefore, if you wish to avoid some spoilers then it might be best to avoid the trailer until you play the game. As we already mentioned, the trailer features both a fully voiced English and Japanese voice cast, with both being changed in and out between scenes. We also hear the newly arranged soundtrack by original composer Motoi Sakuraba which includes the original score as well as some newly added songs. We also see gameplay which showcases the new Break and Assault Action combat mechanics.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R will also have New Game +, something that the previous two iterations did not feature. The player’s level, skill level, upgrades, items, friendship level of each character, and completion of the encyclopedia will all carry over. Fast Travel points, Private Action progress, treasure chests, specific key items, and certain arts and spells will not carry over. Either way, this will only entice us to go through the title again and make different choices for a new and unique playthrough.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R will launch net week on Thursday, November 2 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
