Square Enix’s Mystery-Adventure “The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story” Set To Release Late Spring

Square Enix has recently revealed their newest live-action mystery adventure game The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story. It was announced earlier this month shortly after the Nintendo Direct livestream concluded in the western part of the world. The Final Fantasy publisher is teaming up with h.a.n.d, the Japanese development team behind several titles including couple of Kingdom Hearts installments. Players will get to experience the FMV (Full-Motion Video) game on May 12 for PlayStation, Switch, and Steam. For those unfamiliar, the FMV genre typically uses pre-recorded video files instead of 3D models or other visual styles. Regarding the story, Square Enix has told players that,

The complex and interwoven mysteries you’ll unravel in this investigative adventure are centred around the ill-fated Shijima family, which has suffered a series of inexplicable deaths over the last century.

As far as the main character of the game goes, Square Enix recently tweeted out her short bio and let players know that, “As Haruka Kagami, it’s up to you to use your powers of deduction to uncover the truth behind these mysterious events and the ‘Fruit of Youth’ that allegedly lies somewhere in the Shijima Mansion. You’ll explore both the past and the present in four murder cases, set across different eras of Japan”.

Some notable names behind the game’s development include Koichiro Ito, Junichi Ehara, Yasuhito Tachibana, and Yuki Hayashi. This collective of director, (film) producer, and composer, respectively, are sure to bring their aggregate experience from the Metal GearNieR, and My Hero Academia worlds into this, “uniquely immersive and inventive adventure”. Check out the trailer below to get your first clue about this mystery that you can pre-purchase on Steam for bonus content come May 12.
