Last year, Square Enix released Echoes of Mana, a free-to-play mobile game based off the Mana series. This mobile 2D action RPG took fans to the familiar worlds as they went out in their heroic quests. This mobile game also had online multiplayer features where players can complete online missions together. It first launched in April 27, 2023. Although the game hasn’t been out a full year, Square Enix has announced that they will sunset Echoes of Mana.
The game itself had 2d graphics and certainly carried the elements of an RPG game. For those who have followed the Mana series, it was a mix of vising familiar places while going on quests with new characters. Players follow the story of Quilto and Quilta, who take the mana sword and set off to save the Mana tree. However, Square Enix no longer seemed to want to pursue development of the game. The company had this to say about the shutdown, ” we’ve strived to provide an incredible and enjoyable gaming experience for our players every day that could exceed the day before. However, we’ve come to the conclusion that it would be difficult to continue maintaining the app experience, and to therefore end the app service.”
While fans still have until May to play the game, the in-app purchase feature of the game has been discontinued. Square Enix said they will honor any currency that has already been paid into the game but no future sales will be allowed. The company also said while there is only a few months left until the game is shut down, there will still be in-game events and content for players to enjoy. The sun will set on Echoes of Mana on May 15, 2023.
