After unveiling the release date last night during the Final Fantasy VII – A Symphonic Reunion concert, Square Enix opened up their E3 press conference revealing a ton more about the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake. Square Enix unveiled new information including character reveals, an in depth look at gameplay, and two special editions of the game.
The conference opened up with a look at the title screen of the game, then showed off the game’s opening cinematic. It was then revealed that only the Midgar portion of the game will be included during the first release, and it’s so expansive now that it will take up two Blu-ray discs.
Next, a deep dive into gameplay was showcased, and Square Enix stated the game “features a hybrid battle system that merges real-time action with strategic, command-based combat.” Many things were touched on including a slowed down time mode called Tactical Mode. Tactical Mode can be activated by filling up a character’s ATB bars. Finally, the game’s first boss battle was shown off in glorious fashion.
Finally, Square Enix showed another new trailer for the game. The trailer features a look at Cloud riding a motorcycle while in combat. It also finally showed off fan favorite characters Tifa, Marleen, and the game’s antagonist Sephiroth.
Square Enix also announced two special editions of the game. The Deluxe Edition of the game comes with a hardback art book, a Mini-Soundtrack CD, Summon Materia DLC that allows players to summon Cactuar, and a Steelbook Case featuring the game’s antagonist Sephiroth. Then, the 1st Class Edition will include all Deluxe Edition content, the Carbuncle Summon Materia DLC, as well as a Play Arts Kai Cloud Strife and Hardy Daytona box set. Both Editions can be pre-ordered now via the official Square Enix store. The 1st Class Edition costs an astounding $329.99 USD and the Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 USD.
