Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights, the latest installment to the Bravely Default series, will be releasing on iOS and Android mobile devices this month, according to Square Enix. Yesterday, Square Enix announced that Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights finally has a release date for Jan. 27, 2022. The mobile spin-off game was first announced back in July 2021 as a special project to commemorate Bravely Default’s 10th anniversary this year. Unfortunately for international fans, Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights will only be available in Japan as Square Enix hasn’t revealed any current plans to release or localize the game. Square Enix took this route previously back in 2017 with the Bravely series’ first mobile spin-off game, Bravely Default: Fairy’s Effect, where the game garnered huge success exclusively in Japan.
According to Famitsu, Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights will incorporate previous characters from other Bravely games as allies and introduce four new characters: Claire, Steel Franklin, Sandra Cassandra, and Rufus. The game will also use the same battle system, called the “Brave & Default” system, seen throughout the Bravely games. Additionally, a digital play manual was released on the game’s official website, which gives readers more information about the game and instructions on how to play.

The Bravely series has come a long way since its title game first debuted in 2012. Most notably, the series overcame concerns for its future after Bravely Second: End Layer presumably failed to meet fans’ expectations, according to Square Enix producer Tomoya Asano. Today, the series has sold a total of three million copies, and Square Enix recently celebrated Bravely Default II selling over one million copies in December 2021. Thanks to its hardworking development team and its supportive fans, the Bravely series has successfully reached its 10th anniversary. Hopefully, the series will continue to see more success in the upcoming years.
