Developer Square Enix has already started off 2019 in a big with the release of their long awaited title Kingdom Hearts 3. After six long years in development and the game’s release finally come and gone we now can look forward to what else Square Enix has on their agenda. The company has recently released their financial reports for the third quarter of fiscal year 2019
As it turns out their numbers didn’t quite meet expectations for the company likely due to Shadow of the Tomb Raider underperforming initially at launch. However they did state that Just Cause 4 did help boost their sales and that they have hopes that the title will continue to sell due to updates and “other initiatives.” With all this being said the company also alluded to what they have planned for their 2020 fiscal year. They didn’t go into much detail but Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda hinted to a major title releasing at some point this year.
It seems that one of their targets for fiscal year 2020 will be the third quarter (October-December) this year where the developer is confident that they will have record sales. While this is not set in stone it certainly looks like they have something big planned for this year. With no other hints to what they have in store around this time Matsuda only stated that they will be making announcement around the time of E3 2019.
He also added that they are also aiming to cut down the times between game announcements and releases. Currently, we know of two big name projects that Square Enix has in the works at the moment and that’s The Avengers Project as well as Final Fantasy VII Remake. Whether it be one of these projects releasing, or a new one all together we should be hearing about it this summer around the time of E3.
