Square Enix is looking to branch out with a new strategy, according to a recent earnings report. According to Square Enix, the new strategy is the result of profits lower than previously predicted due to the company’s significant dip in profits, despite the success of 2023 hits like Final Fantasy 16.
According to the report, the three-year strategy, named “Square Enix Reboots, and Awakens”, will focus on pushing it’s titles on other platforms outside of just PlayStation including Nintendo, Xbox, and PC.
Alongside that new strategy, GamesIndustry.biz noted that the company hopes to “rebuild its overseas business divisions from the ground up” through structural reforms that will optimize the costs of its European and American offices.

For Square Enix, the report noted that this new strategy will enable the company to make it easier for old and new players to experience their games by exploring new ways to “leverage” its existing IP by releasing a moderate amount of content in those franchises. Additionally, Square Enix noted that it is also putting focus on ensuring quality over quantity, seen visibly by the amount of developing projects Square Enix has canceled recently.
While nothing considering Square Enix’s future titles has been revealed, the report did confirm that the company would be experimenting with new IPs outside of established franchises like Final Fantasy alongside other avenues to draw the iOS, Android and PC gaming crowd.
Square Enix isn’t the only gaming company to shift its business strategies on the past few months. Microsoft made its big multiplatform strategy announcement in February.
Considering how prevalent multiplatform games have become within the industry, including their financial success, it’s to no one’s surprise that more and more companies will be leaning heavily towards it.
